Wordpress 2

Now that the final version of Wordpress 2 is out, I took it upon myself to upgrade this blog’s inner workings to that new, spangly software. On in the outside it may at first glance not look much different (well, except for another change of theme) but there’s a lot of cool, new (or stream-lined) stuff behind the scenes. Writing this article, for example, is such a pleasure and a breeze in the new editor, so rejoice for Wordpress 2 making my life easier!

Decoration Envy

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m not a big Christmas buff. A lot of head scratching and stress at a time that should be about relaxtion. A quick screwing up the finances before the New Year. And all that.

But then you find yourself living in a residential area with families and grandchildren all around. Walking through Breck Road at night currently looks more like walking through a seaside arcade: flashing lights absolutely everywhere.

Yes, it’s tacky and kitsch. But when you house is suddenly the only one shrouded in dull grey darkness, something stirs within oneself. So here’s my effort towards neo-suburbian inclusion.

Heavy Metal Goodness

Well, two exciting things in my personal metal world happened recently. Firstly, Chris and I have finally drawn the bottom line under The Difference, which marks it as the first finished recording for Amaranth’s new EP. We have a version we’re happy with, hurray. We’ll be tackling Follow the Sun next, which we have reworked and restructured from the ground up. Eventually we’ll build up enough courage to do Shapes, which is a great song, but also happens to be a really tricky one, with lots of fast and interesting parts.

The second event is me winning Within Temptation’s Silent Force DVD off a Totalrock radio competition this morning! Yay! I read in their daily newsletter that Catbird (one of my favourite DJs) was giving a copy away, so I tuned in quickly, and when the competition came up I promptly won! So I’m looking forward to that one. I’ve also removed it from my Christmas wishlist.

While you’re at it, go check out our new song, and let me know what you think.

Stuck for Present Ideas?

Why not have a look at mine and Karen’s wishlist? There’s desirables for most budgets, including club-togethers. And while we’re at it, don’t forget to tell us about your wishlists! (Even if it means creating one.)

Metal

This had me chuckling. And while it may be a satire, it did remind me of trying to tell my younger brother that he couldn’t wear Iron Maiden T-shirts just because he liked the pictures, especially since he actually hated their music.

VATNAJÖKULL GLACIER, ICELAND—In an emergency session Tuesday, members of the Supreme Metal Council strongly condemned the increasing use of the metal hand sign in lay society, claiming that its meaning has become perverted by overuse.
